This article provides the proven tricks and techniques on getting promotion faster in professional life. Getting promoted too quickly is not easy and it requires lot of enthusiasm, passion and hard work. But not always…..
Promotion at work are usually based on the way of acting and behaving depends on work environment and the organizational culture, positive (supportive) or negative (internal politics) culture. In addition, in some organizations there is culture of time bond promotion and this type of culture is not suitable for hardworking peoples. This article provides the ways and tricks for all type of these organizational cultures. 
Whether it is manufacturing, processing, engineering, construction or any other type of industries, work-site may be a complicated area. Peoples of different religion, languages, experience, and with other competencies working together in workplace involving the co-ordination amongst them to perform different activities. This article is divided into three parts (Part-A, Part-B and Part-C). First two parts are based on the work environment, positive and negative, while the third part is based on mixed culture where part of the organizational peoples function as ideal and part of them has followed a culture both negative and positive because there is system of time bond promotion.
The tricks and techniques for positive environment are different from the negative environment and have tried to cover all the situations and mindsets of corporate leaders, bosses and colleagues. Part-C is unique because this type of culture is very rare and most of the time can be seen in government organizations/ enterprises.
For working in both the environment and planning to get promoted faster, the first very important thing is the self-assessment for strength and weakness and analyzing the threat and opportunities. So basically, you must do your SWOT analysis.
The second important thing is to apply the principle of ISO9001 for customer satisfaction, ie to whom you want to satisfy by creating values so that they bind to promote you at any cost.

Part-A: Tricks and techniques to get promoted faster in positive work Environment

Here we assume that you are working for a good leader, for a visionary and in a very healthy and positive environment. Here, the competition pays off and there is little or no internal political culture. The aim is to become faster promoted by doing something extraordinary, to be presentable and to create values for an organization.
An organization can be said with a positive culture, where the majority of  employees think and feel that teamwork is important, and everyone works and behaves supportively with excellent coordination as they understand the importance of growth of self and others alongside the growth of the business. There is a strong HR policy and clear leadership from the top management and passes through the whole organization from top to bottom.
Peoples those are not believing in hard work and teamwork are in the minority and are likely to either leave, because they do not feel that they fit in, or possibly be dismissed for doing internal politics.

1. Customer-oriented thinking:

Here you need to identify your valued customers and the most valuable customer is your boss. Other your customers are your coworkers, managers, colleagues, subordinates, other department heads, all company peoples or external customers or agencies and may be company top leaders but  for you,  they may be categorized under second priority.
So, always think like your boss. Don't think like your coworkers or your buddies, your friends at work. That is not the point because whatever they do, there is a good chance that they have bad habits. Your job is to solve your superior’s problem. It is not a question of where you are in the business. You need to think of a few steps ahead to resolve problems proactively. Your thinking should be as business leader, as a business visionary.
So in the summery, you need to think proactively based on your boss need identification. Your first aim should be satisfying your boss proactively.

2. Become respectful with positive mindset

Be positive and convey your confidence, leave your office with a smile and let people look at you and feel that you know they can draw energy and inspiration from you, that is the key to the extremely humble and always try to help others.
Discipline  and positive mindset help to become respectful in a group of peoples. Positive work habits are nothing but doing good things consistently on a regular basis and this will help you to become more visible to your colleague and in the organization as well.

To become respectful, you must be a problem solver and not pass it on to someone else or just let it stagnate. You have to be ingenious, which sometimes means if you can't solve the problem, be ingenious in finding others or ways to solve it.
Don't underestimate others, you could be part of a group of people who also plan to be promoted faster, act confidently at this point, and you need to be more visible in a group.

3. Remember unique details about your boss

Don't be afraid to speak to your boss or your boss's boss, they are just another human. Educate yourself tactfully at the right time about their children or when it is good to talk to others in a relaxed and comfortable way, as it shows that you have confidence in yourself. It also shows that you are not afraid to speak to someone and that you do not necessarily see them at a level higher than you.
Once they tell you, keep them in mind to create a mental note, so if they like to talk about their dog the next time you see them, ask them about their dog. The reason is that when you follow up with specific questions about things people have told you, whether those people are at levels higher or lower than you, it makes them feel valued and if you want to feel valued , you must make others feel valued, it is also a reciprocal relationship.

4. Update your knowledge regularly and become problem solver

Do not complain, fix problems, identify and remove roadblocks and get things done. The people who Crip, they are never popular people who look at a glass half full and then work to make everything positive, it is these people who are promoted.
Identify the problems and prepare the strategy to solve with the presentation. The speed at which you climb the ladder depends a lot on the speed at which you can identify and solve problems for your boss. Not only do what you are asked to do but think of a few steps and do it. Developing self-confidence, not being too kind just because your title or rank is lower than that of others in your job does not mean that you have to compensate by being too kind to them and acting like you are less than them. If you feel this way about yourself, this is what others will feel for you too, you must own your work and own who you are and approach any colleague or colleague whether you are above or below of yourself anyone face to face with a deep level of inner self-confidence and knows and has the belief that you are the best.

5. You must be an extreme ownership taker

Not only will you finish the job assigned by your boss, but you must take on other additional responsibilities proactively for all your actions. Forget all the excuses and forget the word "no". Always remember that the word "YES" is a very powerful word that will push you faster to the top of the growth ladder. Do not worry if you will succeed or not, but you must accept the challenges first. If you start something, the path will automatically open and you will get resources.
The hardest thing in the world is to initiate or start a job, so you certainly get everything that supports you. Don't worry about resources, it's not resources. It's about becoming ingenious. So, take extreme ownership of everything you do. How you do anything is how you do everything. So, it's not just at work, but in other areas of your life.

6. Don’t waste time with office gossip, loose talk and politics

Don't think no one is looking at you, the boss is always smarter than you or if not, always think about it because a good boss will see it immediately. Trust me, no boss will like such a person who does office politics. The boss only likes people who focus on the mission. So, avoid all of these things. Focus on what you do, do well, help your colleagues, help your colleagues. Support them and help them grow. Then it becomes a very nice positive dynamic. So, avoid all of these office policies and gossip.
Whenever you can take on more responsibilities that show you are right for the job, do it. This will show your boss that you are capable. Not only that, you may even want to reach out to the person you know can potentially leave and want this job and ask if you can help. You would then be the ideal person to slide in once they are gone.

7. Prepare for the next higher role ie. think ahead

Engage with your leadership, it is essential to understand who is doing your evaluation, so go ahead and catch them and try to understand what they are looking at in terms of their expectations of you in case you want to be promoted and also compare yourself with them in terms of how you are doing right now and where are the key elements that you need to improve to get there. You should have the courage to go and ask for a promotion. Many people make this mistake, they are not going to ask for it, you have to understand one thing, power is not given, power is taken once your manager or CEO or your leadership understands that you are looking to grow and that you want a promotion they will give you more and more mandates and opportunities by being proactive.
Do not worry about your current position in the organization, maybe you are in a very junior or intermediate position or in any department like in the main production department, marketing and sales or in services of support.
It does not matter. You should not just focus on your current role, but your goal should be focused on taking higher responsibility to a higher role. What you do is you think, if you are in this leadership position, what should you do today to prepare yourself? Don't turn your mind away from your main goal, let others think that "once I get this role, once I get this promotion, I will understand how it works".
You must think that you are already there and act as a leader. You identify yourself the qualities and skills required for a superior role, leadership skills, marketing skills, training skills, team leadership skills, etc. Always think positively and think you have done it only for that purpose and that is why you are in this business and now is the time to shine.
You have to change your attitude and the way you act. Start to think that you are in a leadership position, so how would you act, behave, make decisions, hire, hire? When you start to think from this point of view, the people around you will certainly observe it and if your boss is intelligent, he will recognize him.
Dare to bring your idea to a higher authority, a leader, or even a corporate CEO and start talking about it. You bring ideas to the table. And your company's management team will see and appreciate it. 8.  Ask for expectations and share your ambition with the boss

Don't think your boss has superpower that he can read your mind. Without sharing your ambitions and expectations for you, you cannot deliver the desired output. Don't hesitate to ask for the wait and share your ambitions with your boss.
Approach your boss and ask for coaching and advice. Maybe he will give you tips to improve your skills by recommending a reading class. Ask for the expectations required for the next top role and maybe be your boss like that considering your passion for growing up. If you can do, meet these expectations, then no one can stop you from being promoted to this level.
The first thing you need to do is sit down with your boss and let him know that you are interested in your promotion. You can't assume just because you work hard and do a great job that people know you even want this promotion. Once you've done that, make sure that during all the digs you've done, you have a very good business case. Explain why you are the right person, explain the benefits to the business, explain how it really works for the strategy as a whole. It's the sale you're going to make to make sure you get this promotion, but part of it is to build that business case and make sure you talk to your boss, letting him know that you are even open to the idea.
There is really no right or wrong time, but there are very good guidelines when things are going well for your organization, you had a great quarter, things are really busy, there is a need additional resources, anything that provides positive insight is a great time to ask for a promotion.
In addition, you can sometimes share your ambitions with your colleagues selectively and, in some cases, they can also help you on your way.

9. Establish credibility, deliver high quality work and work to exceed expectations

You already have a list of the expectations of your boss and your organization, you must now work beyond these expectations, that is to say focus on "overcome". If you want to be promoted, do what you are asked to do and nothing else is enough. You would just do your job.
To exceed expectations, you should see each task as an opportunity to expand your team's impact and understanding of things. If your boss asks you to analyze one of your competitors, do a full analysis of the industry, including candidates for the acquisition.
Don't confuse exceeding expectations. By being ambitious, ambition concerns you. But to exceed expectations is to succeed your team and your business.
Build credibility through your work. Respect is acquired by demonstrating your ability to perform high quality work. You can work hard every day, but people don't notice you and that's because you only do the most basic things. In order to gain respect, delivering high quality work is the most basic first step to gaining respect from others. But it's not the only thing so if that's it and the only thing you do is not enough to help you shine but it is an important first step. So, make sure that you provide consistent high quality work, deliver the items before their deadline if possible and make sure your work is not filled with errors or reckless errors.

10. Take feedback from boss

Don’t wait for appraisal time, get feedback from your boss regularly by updating and presenting your achievements, reviewing your innovative plans and monitoring your performance.  Most of the peoples are making mistake for waiting they’re on the day of appraisals and usually they are shocked. So, without taking feedback timely from their boss, peoples are self-diagnosing that they will get  rank like five out of five but actually the boss thinks that they're doing like two out of five or three out of five  and it comes like a shocker. So please do not get shocked at the end of the whole mild but rather than go and approach your boss midway. Go proactively, let them not call you for a formal appraisal, you should go and ask for feedback. You should go and do the course correction that kind of a proactiveness is required.

11. Be more visible: Establish relationships across the entire organization.

In most of the organizations, promotion decision is being taken by committee of leaders. Different department bosses are recommending his subordinates for promotion then complete file is reviewed by promotion committee and then they decide. If nobody in organization other than your boss recognizing you then it’s very difficult to get promoted, you.
Now depends on the size of the company you're working for. Maybe within your division, meaning sometimes when you are finish your work but spend a little bit time with your coworkers and other department peoples including leader or departmental head. Get to know each other so that other peoples also know you. Because promotion decision may not be one-person decision. Chances are the executive team, or the managers will be involved in the decision. So maybe the boss loves you and wants to promote you but if all the managers are saying no, then you're not getting that promotion.
Therefore, maintain good relationship with everyone you know in the organization so that at least they feel comfortable with you. So, when your name is brought up in the meeting they will think and admire that you are perfect for that new role.  They would be aware about your way of work and your competency; passion and it definitely becomes backup for you.
Best way to engaged yourself with others is hang out a little bit, outside of the typical work environment, have a dinner with them or just meet in coffee break and discuss officially on certain good issues, get some ideas from them and share your view with them, try to offer some solutions to their problems. Just get to know them. Invite them to a little barbecue. All those things are very, very critical. You don't wait 'til 30 minutes before the promotion you try to do this stuff. This is all about your proactiveness and preparedness for next promotion.

12. Be more artful

There are always limitations for all bosses in the organization based on their position and way of approach to management leadership team.  Therefore, there is no doubt that your boss has a certain level of influence in the organization. Sometimes you have a problem with someone, maybe you are a star performer in your department and your boss is willing to protect you, but the way of approach and the power of your boss is matter.
Now if you have very good reputation in entire organization due to your good relations, your innovations, your support and acceptance level, it will definitely help you and your boss to get the thing done easily. And it will help you to sustain your start performer reputation in your boss.
Aim high, sometimes you must present your request higher up than your boss due to lack of influence power of your boss. You have to go up a little bit higher than your boss because you may not have a great relationship with your boss and you don't want to be stagnant because you don't have that great relationship, as well as, your boss may just not know of some other opportunities so develop those relationships with those higher up and it's going to help you.

13. Be presentable and a good leader

Always remember that leadership' is neither taught in school nor  learn from a book. You must learn it by leading and by working with people. Therefore, you must talk with people and understand them.  You must nurture the peoples, help to grow them, guide them and empowered by grooming them. Great leader creates leaders, this is not an easy thing and that's why there are very few leaders in the world, most peoples are followers only. You must demonstrate your leadership quality.
Be a team player and help others succeed. It's a very common misconception that you have to assert all the work and you have to do all the work. It’s a huge mistake, always try to figure out how you can help people around you to succeed, help your team succeed by virtue of your team succeeding all that good will come upon you that you are an enabler of success in the organization that can a word that can offer environment an aura around you it's very critical help people mentor people and help them succeed.
In order to move up the ladder it's not just how well you do, because it is at the end of the day a team effort. It's not just about you. So, it doesn't matter how good you are. You will become so much more valuable to a company if you can develop people that are as good as you, or better. If you observe the top management peoples like company director or CEO, their invaluable skill is not just creating followers, but actually create leaders by nurturing, coaching, empowerment, and developing them. That's the most valuable skill. You could do that, naturally you'll get promoted faster and faster.

14. Don’t depends on others: working on yourself

Be self-driven and proactive, ask for more responsibilities and true by measurable results, it shouldn't happen that you ask for responsibilities and you're not able to back it up with results then that will be a huge problem. So look at the surroundings look at the situations and try and pick up more work at the same time deliver things with immaculate position so that they recognize you and they start giving you more and more responsibilities.
Believe in yourself and have an agenda or a plan to take your team and company to the next level think through who are your customers what is your team what are the weaknesses what are the strengths and work with everybody to take them to the next level and that this is possible only if you believe in yourself so strongly believe in yourself and put your best foot forward.
Make sure you are working on yourself, work hard and sincerely. Always try to do all things correctly, maintain consistency if you really want to grow fast. Many peoples keep waiting to be grown, relying on their bosses to work on their growth and that happens to be the biggest mistake. Such peoples have very less chance to grow. If you want to work on your own growth, become ambitious, it is the best thing that you can do for yourself. You become a sincere, hardworking employee and your boss can see your efforts. 
The moment, he starts seeing and noticing your efforts, you not only become a star in his eyes, but your growth is then assured. So, make sure that you are not sitting back and relying on your boss. Manage your own growth in your organization in order to become a star. Now in order to become a star in your boss's eyes, it's important that you become a star team player. As good team player, you have to work with people and gain a respect. Peoples will enjoy working with person who is more supportive, friendly, positive and someone who has great interpersonal skills. 
If you want to become popular in a your office staff, you must become a star team player and for that you have to develop good relationships, you make the work atmosphere easy and positive and that makes the boss notice you.
People likes more that person who enjoy working with each other and work well together. Make sure that you are a good team player in order to prove to that you are a good employee.

15. Be bold yet respectful

Always be bold and willing to express your thoughts and emotions freely. Offer solutions on how you can help to improve them for example, if there is problem or issue in your department that you noticed and no one's doing anything about it. You can approach your boss on a one-to-one level and bring it up with him and from there make your recommendation to solve it  instead of bringing it up at a big meeting with all your bosses. Take a lead to establish credibility for you. It's also going to make your boss see you in a way where you're someone who's proactive, who wants to improve things and it doesn't embarrass your current boss or anyone else in the organization. To execute, you have to do the action steps that are required in order to improve and record the results. Keep the record of such achievements that are going to be very helpful for you in your next performance review and that's going to also help to garner more respect from others in your company.

16. Result-oriented efforts

If you want to move up the ladder, you can do all the work and office but if you are not able to showcase results, it's going to be difficult for people to recognize you and move you up. So always present your achievement and highlight your innovations, initiatives, etc with your boss and with other leaders in your organization.

17. Brand yourself

You must develop certain competency that it should be unique in company. Then, showcase things proactively, the more the people know about your great work, the better it is in terms of getting recognition from them. Engage with the audience internally, be it employees or key customers, go and engage with them, let them know what amazing work that you are trying to do. It's not going to happen automatically, so take it up as a mandate to create a great personal brand for you internally and externally.
Good bosses always try to pick up amazing expertise in a particular domain and become a mentor. Therefore, try to create a personal brand for yourself, let everybody know that you are the go-to person. When it comes to this particular domain or expertise in your entire company, this can happen only if you are proactive and you're able to go and do a lot of events webinars, writing some technical articles, presentation and creating videos. A lot of other material of what is particular subject in your company, you need to be the subject matter expert for that particular domain.

Part-B: Ways and tricks to get promoted faster in negative work culture

Here we are assuming that you are working for a leader who are doing internal politics, lack of vision, creating cultural groups, adopting divide and rule policy and believing less work but presenting more. Here the competition is not fare and there is lot of internal politics culture. The aim is how to get promoted faster by behaving smarter, be presentable and to create values for an organization.
An organization can be said with a negative culture, where majority of employees think and feel that hard work is not important, they are not believing in teamwork, not supportive, pulling legs of colleagues and behaves casually, unethical. HR policy poorly implemented, and 99% appraisal is based on concern boss’s decision. There is a lack of clear direction and leadership from senior management. Managers do not think about fare growth of there subordinates in their decision-making and so let other priorities dictate their actions.
Hardworking employees are in the minority and they may leave because they do not like the organizational culture and feel discomfort in the work situation as they are not recognized based on their work and values.
  

1. Read mind of your boss and understand his need

Here also, you have to apply the principle of ISO 9001, customer satisfaction. Who is your prime customer, off course your boss is your prime customer. So, your target must be understanding the need and expectation of your boss and plan to satisfy him.
Always try to build a good relationship with your boss, try to contact him by finding some means, it may be your work related or other’s work-related concerns. If you don’t have any concern, then simply create it. Anyhow, your target is to spend lot of time with your boss to develop a relation and be always close to him.
Try to gather all his information, don’t limited to work related, think beyond it, reach up to his personal life, find out his good as well as bad habits, his strength and weaknesses.
After collecting all the data, prioritize the things and make action plan which you can do ethically without damaging your reputation.

2. Study your colleagues who are closed to your boss

 Try to read the mind of your colleagues who are closer to your boss and make casual friendship with them. Always try to avoid loose casual comments and speculations about colleagues, bosses’ clients, customers, and even about the organization that we work in. It can spiral out of control and may hurt other people's reputations, and it also travels much beyond the boundaries of the organization.
Be alert, always try to stay away from office politics, your role is just to gather good information which will help you to plan your growth and not to become part of it. Collect information on all technical competencies of your colleagues and then compare it with your competency so that your can plan for extraordinary things which will separate you from others.

3. Avoid office gossips, loose talk and politics

Negative work culture doesn’t mean that all peoples doing politics. Might be some peoples involved, like some of your colleagues or other department employees. May be your boss is very good person and he don’t like this type of negative culture. Don’t think that nobody is watching you, boss is always smarter than you or if not so, always consider it because a good boss will see through that immediately. Boss only likes persons who are focus on the mission.  So, avoid all those things. Focus on what you do, do well, help your colleagues, help your coworkers. Support them and help them grow. Then it becomes a very nice, positive momentum. So, avoid all those office politics and gossips.
Whenever you can take on more responsibility that shows that you are right for the position, do it. This is going to show your boss that you're capable. Not only that, you may want to even reach out to the person who you know is potentially leaving and that you want that job and ask them if you can help them. You would be then the perfect fit just to slide in once they leave.

4. Ignore negative comment about you by any person

Sometimes, you may hear a negative comment from another person, jut neglect it or convert it into comedy beside reacting on it, otherwise it is fueling the issue. Just review yourself, whether the comment is right or wrong. If the comment is valid then try to improve yourself and if it is not valid then just ignore it. But be careful from such person, try to avoid him. After certain time, the bad commenter will realize that there is no use of commenting on you as you are not reacting, thus your value is increasing whereas he is losing his reputation. 
This behavior may be observed by your boss and other colleagues and you may be become disciplined and respectable person in office, definitely it will help in your appraisal.

5. Develop personal brand

You must develop certain competency that it should be unique in company. Then, showcase things proactively, the more the people know about your great work, the better it is in terms of getting recognition from them. Engage with the audience internally, be it employees or key customers, go and engage with them, let them know what amazing work that you are trying to do. It's not going to happen automatically, so take it up as a mandate to create a great personal brand for you internally and externally.
You have to set yourself apart, something different from others, must be visible in crowd by developing a strong personal brand to give you an opportunity in space to still continue to grow in your organization and not get lost in.
Good bosses always try to pick up amazing expertise in a particular domain and become a mentor. Therefore, try to create a personal brand for yourself, let everybody know that you are the go-to person. When it comes to this particular domain or expertise in your entire company, this can happen only if you are proactive and you're able to go and do a lot of events webinars, writing some technical articles, presentation and creating videos. A lot of other material of what is particular subject in your company, you need to be the subject matter expert for that particular domain.

6. Consistency in demonstrating high quality work

Establish some integrity through your work respect is gained through demonstrating your ability to do high quality work.  You may work hard every day, yet people don't notice you and that's because you're only doing the most basic things. In order to gain respect, delivering high quality work is the first most basic step to gaining respect from other people. But it's not the only thing so if that's all and the only thing that you're doing it's not enough to help you shine but it is an important first step. So, make sure that you deliver consistent high quality work, deliver items before their deadline if possible and make sure that your work isn't full of careless errors or mistakes.
Stay away from conflict and  try to become a role model at the work that you do so that it becomes your identity as someone who delivers consistently high-quality work. It will help to build a trust to your boss, and you will be given more independence. It differs you from others, developed unique identity essentially you are physically setting yourself apart from the rest of the crowd.

7. Become unique – irreplaceable

Be self-driven and proactive, ask for more responsibilities and true by measurable results, it shouldn't happen that you ask for responsibilities and you're not able to back it up with results then that will be a huge problem. This area must be crucial to the business or for your department and nobody compete or replace you. It will help you to develop your unique identity as expert or advisor or knowledge champion in your company for that specialization.
